I started taking photographs back in college, when my Nikkormat and black-and-white darkroom let me get all artsy with images. Just before we left on vacation, a Nikon D80 came into my life. Two things became obvious from the beginning: First, that this camera records incredible images; and next, that it’s going to take me quite a while to catch up to the camera’s capabilities.
Since my dear wife is a serious PhotoShop whiz, I started out recording everything as a large-format .JPG along with a RAW file. With a 2 Gig SD card, I get around 115 images before having to download to the computer.
The automatic modes are super for most circumstances, but I’ve been most impressed with just how easy it is to go into one of the programmed modes and make adjustments to one or more parameters for image fine-tuning. I suspect I’ll be writing about this well into the future–I’d be very interested in hearing which cameras you’ve decided to use.
